Deliberate

This may not be immediately energizing to your life, but you may be edified to know that today, November 12, is Domino Day 2010. That means that today in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, there will be another annual attempt to break the previous attempt at tipping a world record number of dominoes.

The previous world record was set in 2009, when 4,491,863 dominoes (out of 4.8 million set up) toppled.  Here's a sampling of the event:

The whole law on which domino-tipping rests, is that of cause-and-effect. Once the first domino tips, it will theoretically knock down every other domino you arrange in the cause-and-effect pathway you've set up. If you've ever done this, no matter how simple your set-up, you know it's a very satisfying feeling to watch those carefully placed dominoes topple, one by one. Whether or not it's worth it to set up 4.8 million of them is debatable.

That law of cause-and-effect applies, I believe, to pretty much everything in life. I suspect that there is nothing a human can do (I will not contemplate other life forms at this point) that does not affect something or someone. Whether there is an "equal and opposite reaction" for every action is something I can't verify, but certainly every action is going to cause something to happen. And I believe that extends to thoughts and attitudes.

So, with that in mind, why not be deliberate today with your actions? Be deliberately positive. Be deliberately generous. Be deliberately kind. Be deliberately forgiving. Be deliberate about giving the most important things the highest priority. Be deliberate about connecting. Be deliberate about loving.

Be deliberate. Because whatever you do, deliberate or not, you will have an affect on this world.

  1. Nice little homily.

These domino shows are so impressive, but it's a bit like slaving for days over a Christmas dinner that is consumed in 20 minutes. It's nice that somebody does it though.
